Book Review: “Imperfect Promise” by Susanna Lane

I was given the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader’s copy of Imperfect Promise by Susanna Lane when I found myself so immersed in the story Ms. Lane crafted for her debut novel, that I didn’t want to put it down, and completed it in two evenings. Susanna’s style of writing for her first work of fiction is an engaging and refreshing Western Romantic tale that draws you in from the very first page. Using written words, Susanna paints for her reader’s eye, picture after picture of her character’s tale while skillfully moving the story forward.

Within its pages, the story finds the leading characters, Cortland Enders and Lark Garrin running from their past as evil seem to follow them at every turn. On their side, is widow Sienna Harris with her own engaging story to tell. Sienna, a ranch owner, is determined to bring Cortland and Lark together in an unconventional relationship, despite Lark’s sense of propriety and Cort’s sense of duty. Sound intriguing? It is.

We all want to escape into a great book. And, while taking you on a fictional journey, Ms. Lane provides enough back story with twists and turns to keep the plot moving forward and readers eagerly turning pages. I won’t give the story away, but I highly recommend cozying up by the fire on a cool winter night to read Susanna Lane’s Imperfect Promise.  You won’t be disappointed.
